In the sequel to The Friday Night Knitting Club, which focuses on an eclectic group of women who knit in their spare time, Knit Two is about the events after Georgia Walker’s untimely death. Dakota, her now college-aged daughter, runs the Walker and Daughter yarn store with Perri, a woman who makes unique pocketbooks. While the group is struggling to move on five years after her mother’s death, life finds a way for these women to meet and knit together once a week.
Main Characters
Catherine wants to find love, after being divorced for so long.
Darwin wants to have a family, after getting married to Dan.
Lucie struggles to be both a single mom and a caregiver to her elderly mother.
Anita, the oldest member of the group, wants to marry her sweetheart Marty, despite her grown children’s objections.
Dakota wants to travel and go out on a date with a boy she likes, no matter what her father and knitting friends think.
Thoughts
Knit Two was, at first, a struggle to get into. At first, I thought that this book was very chick-litty, and I found myself taking a break from the book. But, as I powered through it, I found myself not minding the story. While I prefer to read books that aren’t chick-lit, I did remember liking the first book. (I was younger back then, but I still enjoy knitting.)
While Knit Two isn’t a perfect novel–there were simple things that irked me, like creating drama out of something that didn’t need to have drama–I did enjoy it. I found myself hoping that Anita would find her long-lost sister, and that Dakota would be able to have a boyfriend.
The stakes aren’t very high in this book, but it’s a nice reprieve from the heavier novels I love reading so much.
Here’s to knitting friends,
Meghan B.
